Due to mastering limitations, (CLV was limited to 55 minutes per side) Flash Gordon got attacked by a
run-away pair of scissors in its DiscoVision treatment. There are a few very good copies to be had, but one must
look hard. The disc includes the MCA Videodisc standard "shrinking numbers" artwork at the end of side 1 and at
the beginning and end of side 2.
MCA Home Video released a restored version of Flash Gordon on LaserDisc (Catalog #: 13006) in 1985, returning
the film to its full 111 minutes. MCA/Universal Home Video released a Widescreen (2.35:1) Digital version of Flash
Gordon (Catalog #: 41518) in July 1993. All LaserDisc versions of the title are out of print. The latest widescreen
transfer was utilized by Image Entertainment when they licensed the title for release on DVD
in March 1998. The original edition had a mastering flaw and the title was recalled and in May 1998 issued a corrected
version. When buying copies of this title, be sure you get the later edition which has a different catalog number. The
correct number is ID4630USDVD. It's also worth noting that Image reduced the price on the title in the two month period
between editions. As of this update, the correct List Price is $24.99.
