Pressing Notes

The initial copies of this title did not include side numbers on the disc labels. Instead, each side was labeled with the correct program The Making of a Torah and A Portrait of Jewish Marriage. Further, the catalog number on the disc labels varies too, with 93-001A on the "The Making of a Torah" program and 93-001B on the other.

The Making of a Torah was transferred from 16mm film and contains an annoying ground hum through the entire program. A Portrait of Jewish Marriage is also transferred from 16mm film, but appears to have been shot in 8mm. The image is often washed out. Further, the audio is out of sync with the video just enough to be mildly distracting.

It is obvious DiscoVision didn't know what to call these religious programs. Neither film presented on the disc is actually called by the proper name. Further, there are 3 different names for the "Jewish Marriage" program. On the front and back of the LaserDisc box, the title is "A Portrait of Jewish Marriage". On the top edge of the box, the title is "A Portrait of a Jewish Marriage". On the disc label, it is "Portrait of a Jewish Marriage." The title is listed the first two ways even in the Silver Catalog. The word "A", as used in this title, can really be included or not in either location without losing the meaning. And having it twice would cause the title to have run outside of the "V" pattern on the artwork. Only DiscoVision will know what they truly intended for the title to be called.
