The Wild Dogs of Africa, one of four titles from the Jane Goodall library released on DiscoVision, follows
a pack of wild African dogs as the settle into a den for the birth of a litter of puppies. There are present all
of the aspects one might expect from observing dogs in the wild. The program material was so depressing and
gruesome, my wife left the room while I reviewed the disc. The video transfer is sharp and clean, with minor
damage evident only as a result of errors in the 16mm source material. The audio transfer is typical of low
fidelity 16mm film and is unremarkable. It is a limitation of the source again, not the transfer of the elements
into the video domain. Disc replication, from very early in the DiscoVision pressings is clean with very little
speckling. The review copy was very clean with only the most minor of speckling. This of course will vary from
disc to disc.
Release History
The Wild Dogs of Africa was never reissued on LaserDisc.
